What is Newgrass?

Just as jazz is a progressive form of the blues .. newgrass is a progressive form of bluegrass.

When New Grass Revival formed in the 70's and incorporated contemporary and sophisticated music elements in their performances and recordings, the reaction from many was "that's not bluegrass".

Since it was not accepted as bluegrass .. the description "newgrass music" quickly became popular, taken from the name of the band New Grass Revival.

Almost 40 years later, in 2009 .. we decided it was time to finally have the world's first Newgrass Festival.. featuring the surviving members of the original New Grass Revival, and the best of the current wave of newgrass musicians and groups. The location is just outside Bowling Green, KY .. where Sam Bush was born and close to where New Grass Revival lived and rehearsed.

We just finished the 2nd wonderful Newgrass Festival .. and have now begun work on the 3rd. We think we're onto something here.
